I’m a general internist, consumer informaticist and researcher. I care about getting health information into the hands of those who want and need it the most – patients, consumers, all of us. I envision healthcare as it should be: information at patients’ fingertips. cost-effective services. great communication – with experts and with each other. I know exciting changes are coming…I hope we don’t have to wait for our kids to drive us there.
Currently at the VA and Oregon Health Science University (OHSU), I focus on personal health records and designing information and services to engage patients in their own care. Better health and great patient experiences means shared health information that has reach and usage and positive impact.
I received an MD at OHSU, MPH from the Univ. of Washington and did residency at Rhode Island Hospital. I completed fellowships in health services research (Seattle VA) and in medical informatics (OHSU). I’ve practiced in Massachusetts and Oregon, and worked 10 years at MaineHealth and Maine Medical Center. Prior to returning to the Northwest in 2007, I was Director of MaineHealth’s Center for Tobacco Independence.
